In this article I would like to speak about the importance of diversity of the anchor text from your backlinks to your site. Backlinks are very important in SEO and they can help you in getting good rankings in Google. But first I will start with the basics for the younger bloggers and the ones that don’t have a extensive knowledge about SEO or anchor text.

A few years ago the anchor text it was very important in having a higher rank in search engines. For example if you wanted to rank high for the word “SEO Tips” you had to have as meany anchor text from other sites with the “SEO Tips” in anchor text. This worked well for a period of time and you could rank very high in search engines ( I am speaking about Google) if you only used the anchor text in all the anchor text that you build. But with time this started to change and started to not be such a good tactic ( I mean to have all the backlinks with the same anchor text).

I am not saying that is bad to use the anchor text for the keyword that you want to rank. It is good because it will help Google in deciding what is the link about. But it will be better to reduce the anchor text with the exact match because it will not look natural to Google. Building only backlinks with the exact anchor text of the keyword you are targeting for sure it will get you penalized by Google. This is something that I had experienced on with my own sites. At beginning I was only building backlinks with the exact match of the keyword in the anchor text and my sites were penalized and even the domain excluded from Google.

This days it is better to build backlinks with a mixing of the anchor text. Having only 60% of the anchor text in the backlinks that you build for sure it will be more good to have a higher rank in Google. If you want to have good result in search engines it will be recommended to mix the anchor text, to use only 60% from all the anchor text with the keyword to look more natural to Google. Another Google Page Rank Update Another Story on November 2011

From what I have seen on my sites, Google decided to do another page rank update today or somewhere during last night. Compared to the last page rank updates, when Google didn’t seem to do a good and accurate job, I observed that this time the updates are likely to be more stable and fair. I say this because, a few months ago, for a couple of days Google updated bitdoze.com from PR 1 to PR 3 and then back to PR1.
Now, Google seems to developed a more stable algorithm and be more accurate. My site has now PR 2 ( not that I care too much) while in the past it was PR1 on the root page and PR2 and even PR3 on some sub pages. For some PR is still important but for me doesn’t seem to be as important as it was in the old days.
When I started blogging I was really fascinated by Google Page Rank and also, I wanted to have at least PR 1 for my blog. With time I have concluded that PR has no importance in rankings or in visitors and it will only interfere with your goals. You don’t have to give too much attention to Google PR because you will not have many benefits from it.
The young bloggers and the ones that don’t know too much SEO ( in which position I was at the beginning) tend to give too much importance to Google Page Rank. Below I will put some of the things that a new blogger should focus on more.
If you had asked me about this matter a year ago, I would have answered that nothing is more important then Google PR, this is something that frequently happens to a new blogger or to those without experience or guidance.
